The Bliss
of Bayou Dorcheat
The name, Dorcheat, given by the Caddo Indians, translates to “people” and boy has this bayou seen some people! Once known as the principle means of transportation and communication for a wide area of Louisiana, Bayou Dorcheat has seen her fair share of farmers, trader and adventurers. The former vessel for cargo ships and passenger steamboats headed to New Orleans, now serves as a perfect place to paddle and fish, making it a fine destination in Louisiana’s Sportsman’s Paradise. With 6 boat launches to choose from throughout the parish and one paddle trail, Bayou Dorcheat invites you to your next adventure.
